how do you define success?
I realized recently that it’s been 15 years since I passed my first round of Georgia state boards. I was so nervous for that test… despite having been an honors student all through high school and college, and feeling confident in my knowledge, I still remember my knees knocking when the proctor glared down my mock hot towels.
2022
what happened next?
I remember when I first moved to NYC, and the director of an esteemed luxury spa told me that he’d never hire me as a first esthetician.
I remember when the first dermatologist I worked for told me my diagnostics were great but I wasn’t cut out for sales.
I went on to talk my way into a part-time job at a top-rated, growing spa. They wanted someone with 5 years of experience… I had barely 2.
I ended up working my way into a full-time position as lead esthetician and regional trainer at Exhale Spa. I was the top salesperson in my division at Sephora. I went on to a boutique spa where I had A-list celebs requesting my facials.
Now, I own my own business, with an office in midtown Manhattan. I’ve supported myself in the toughest city in the world for 15 years. All of this exceeds even my wildest dreams when I first decided to go to esthetics school.
This industry is hard, but it’s not impossible. I can help you achieve the success you want in the spa biz, whether it’s finding your first job or finally going out on your own.
